Can Sleeping Help You Lose Weight

Can Sleeping Help You Lose Weight

Over the last few days, I’ve mainly been focusing on my little boy Danny and trying to get him to sleep better

A 19 month old toddler is certainly demanding. I’ve been spending more time playing, singing nursery rhymes and picking things up off the stairs (new game and includes toys, shoes, cups…anything that can be picked up really).

I’m currently reading a fabulous book about ‘Why we sleep’ and it’s certainly making me think more about the importance of sleep. Especially when it comes to weight loss

Sleep and Weight Loss

There are so many benefits of getting a good night’s sleep, especially when it comes to losing weight:

  • It keeps your hormones in balance
  • You will have more energy to take on the day (including workouts)
  • It’s us make better decisions with food and stops us from craving sugary carb heavy foods.
  • We get the hunger and full signals better

A few of the girls in my weight loss support group  have been asking how to get better sleep and become more of a morning person. So here are my top tips to help you feel better, lose weight easier and feel full of energy.

My Tips For Better Sleep

Get a sleep routine.

As with a workout routine & meal plan, we must prioritise sleep. To many are staying up late, getting up early, glugging the coffee all day for a boost and just feeling bleurgh. Make an effort to have a bedtime and as much as possible – stick to it.

I know it’s hard when you have little ones to get a full night sleep, but getting to bed earlier will add some extra hours or minutes to your night.

Decide if you want the boxset or the body?

If you want to be able to get out of bed in the morning, feeling rested & ready for the day then put the boxset away until the weekend and love that extra hour of sleep. Then you’ll have the energy to do your 12 min HIIT in the morning before your day starts ( and you’ll be feeling like an instant super human)

Get accountable

The girls in the group are all sharing habits they want to change and sleep is one of them…so we’re adding extra focus to this in the support group with a little sleep challenge. It’s actually really easy.  Prioritise sleep and start to feel brighter, with more sparkle in the day. Would you like to join us?
