Worried about the SUGAR in your smoothie?
So…Smoothies….Healthy or NOT??
Well, they’re packed with nutritious food much of the time, however
to make your favourite flavour, all BURSTING with sweet, fruity, yumminess…
there may very well be a lot of sugar crammed in, which won’t be optimal if
your goal is weight loss.
One of my lovely friends Lydia text me yesterday:
“Do you think it’s okay to have smoothies for brekkie or is it too much sugar?
I don’t want to end up bored of eggs see”
Well first…I hope you don’t get bored of eggs ever Lyd…They’re amazing,
but there are sooooooo many things you can do with them other than just boiling or poaching.
At the mo I am OBSESSED with cheesy scrambled eggs.
OMG I don’t think scrambled eggs should be made any other way!!
Anyway, back to the smoothies.
My response to Lydia was very similar to these top tips:
#1 Add protein – Whey, greek yoghurt
#2 Add your fats – nuts, avocado, coconut
#3 Add your nutrition – spinach, kale, cucumber, romaine, ANY veggie really.
#4 Stick to low sugar fruit – strawberries, blueberries, raspberries.
The high sugar sneaks in when you add things like bananas, mango, grapes, pineapple for example.
The smoothie above is the Vita-Berry Smoothie taken from my latest cookbook.
It’s got carrots, tomato, raspberries in there and you can add
flaxseed & natural yoghurt to make a complete meal out of it.
Yummers
